SUMMARY:'Picturesque' a free orchestra concert in Scottsdale
DESCRIPTION:Get ready to be transported! The Women’s Orchestra of Arizona (WOA) kicks off its 2025-2026 season with the spectacular concert\, “Picturesque.” This is a performance you absolutely won’t want to miss! \n\nThe afternoon begins with the playful energy of Rossini’s “Barber of Seville Overture.” This piece is famous for its energetic crescendo that builds excitement and anticipation\, a perfect start to a magnificent afternoon.\nFollowing this\, WOA will perform “Suffolk Suite” by the renowned female composer\, Doreen Carwithen. A child prodigy who began her musical training at age four\, Carwithen became the first woman to be awarded a J. Arthur Rank Film Scholarship.\nThe winner of the most recent “Pass the Baton” drawing will lead the orchestra in a stirring arrangement of Samuel A. Ward’s “America the Beautiful.”\nThe feature of the afternoon’s program will be Mussorgsky’s timeless classic\, “Pictures at an Exhibition\,” a vibrant and dramatic masterpiece that brings an entire art gallery to life through sound. Inspired by a posthumous exhibition of his friend Viktor Hartmann’s art\, Mussorgsky composed this suite to musically represent ten of the artworks. The famous “Promenade” theme\, which recurs throughout the piece\, acts as a musical depiction of a visitor walking from one painting to the next.\n\nTICKET TYPES: \n\nFree General Admission\nVIP Seating – Immerse yourself in the beauty of orchestral music from the best seats in the house. $10 each\nVIP Seating – FREE For Veterans! SUMMARY:Free Concert by the Women's Orchestra of Arizona: 'Carnival of Music'
DESCRIPTION:We invite you to join the Women’s Orchestra of Arizona’s (WOA) final concert of the 2024-2025 season\, set for Sunday\, April 27\, 2025\, at 3:00 PM. This dynamic performance will feature a program of inspiring works\, including Hector Berlioz’s Roman Carnival Overture\, Susan Kowalske’s Unstoppable\, and Ludwig van Beethoven’s Symphony No. 7. \nThe concert will begin with Berlioz’s Roman Carnival Overture\, a vivid and exhilarating piece inspired by his opera Benvenuto Cellini. Bursting with energy\, the overture is full of vibrant melodies and bold orchestration. Its lively spirit evokes the excitement of a carnival and showcases Berlioz’s mastery in creating dramatic\, colorful musical landscapes. \nOne of the highlights of the concert will be Unstoppable\, a composition by Susan Kowalske\, inspired by Louisa May Alcott’s Little Women. The piece pays tribute to the quiet strength of women who\, like the character Beth March\, often work behind the scenes—raising families and making sacrifices that go unnoticed. Unstoppable celebrates these women who are truly unstoppable in their devotion and resilience\, honoring the quiet heroes whose contributions are vital yet often invisible. \nClosing the program will be Beethoven’s Symphony No. 7\, one of the composer’s most celebrated works. Known for its infectious rhythmic drive and jubilant character\, the symphony captures the essence of triumph and vitality. The second movement is a masterful exploration of intensity and emotion\, contrasting beautifully with the work’s overall exuberance. Beethoven’s Symphony No. 7 remains a favorite for its infectious energy and emotional depth. \nThis concert promises to be an unforgettable experience\, with a powerful mix of classical masterpieces and a deeply personal contemporary work. Don’t miss the opportunity to witness the Women’s Orchestra of Arizona’s extraordinary musicianship at this concert. \nReserve your FREE tickets today!
