SUMMARY:Van Gogh: The Immersive Experience Tucson
DESCRIPTION:Van Gogh: The Immersive Experience is a 360º digital art exhibition in Tucson that invites you to step into the universe of the Dutch genius\, Vincent van Gogh. This captivating experience\, a previous winner of USA Today’s 10Best Readers’ Choice Award\, is brought to you by the organizers of a collection of widely successful exhibitions present in cities across Europe\, Asia\, and the Americas. \nLook at the images and videos from their website to get a better sense of what the event is. https://vangoghexpo.com/tucson. The first rooms have Van Gough painting recreations alongside text about his life. While these recreations of Van Gough’s paintings don’t really do them justice\, as they are projections on flat canvas (colors are not very accurate\, there is no paint texture) the whole experience is less about appreciating fine art than it is about getting fun photo-ops and selfies with pretty backgrounds. It feels like a fun\, trippy art exhibit to appeal to the masses – not high-brow in any way. One of the best parts is a large room where you watch animated versions of Van Gough paintings projected across the walls and floor. When Starry Night is projected\, you can see little animated shooting stars. At points it feels a bit cheesy\, but all still fun. The optional 10 minute virtual reality bit at the end (additional $5/person) is definitely worth doing and just as fun as the large room with projections\, if not better.\n \nOpening hours: (time slots available every half hour)\nMonday and Thursday: 10 a.m. – 8 p.m. (last entry at 7 p.m.)\nTuesday and Wednesday: closed\nFriday: 10 a.m. – 9 p.m. (last entry at 8 p.m.)\nSaturday: 9 a.m. – 9 p.m. (last entry at 8 p.m.)\nSunday: 9 a.m. – 8 p.m. (last entry at 7 p.m.) \nDuration: approx. 1 hour and 15 minutes \nAll ages. (But kids will likely get bored.) \nBuy tickets

SUMMARY:David Cross: Worst Daddy in the World Tour w/ Sean Patton
DESCRIPTION:Since its earliest days\, comedian David Cross’ career was defined by two things: adoration by critics and disinterest by mainstream audiences. His stature in the alternative comedy world made him one of the subgenre’s brightest stars\, seemingly ripe for breakout success for literally decades. Highly intelligent\, brutally honest\, and often confrontational\, Cross never seemed to care too much about conventional success. To his apparent amusement\, these potential breakout roles came and went without acceptance by the general public. Nevertheless\, the size of the cult following that he earned from “Arrested Development” (Fox\, 2003-06) and “Mr. Show with Bob and David” (HBO\, 1995-98) eventually resembled conventional success in everything but name. \n\nGet Tickets

SUMMARY:Gadsden-Pacific Division Toy Train Operating Museum - open house
DESCRIPTION:The GADSDEN-PACIFIC TOY TRAIN OPERATING MUSEUM is a charitable\, not-for-profit 501 (C) (3) corporation dedicated to the hobby of model railroading by providing the public with an interactive museum of operating toy train layouts\, displays and exhibits. \nToday’s museum started as a club of twenty-five individuals in 1980 and has grown steadily over the years to over 130 members. Although we first opened our doors to the public in 1988 from within the Foothills Mall\, we moved in 1998 to our current location. The museum has grown to include G gauge\, standard gauge\, S gauge\, HO gauge\, N gauge and Z gauge operational layouts throughout the display area. Visitors may operate the trains and accessories throughout the museum by pushing buttons located with the displays\, all at tabletop level to give visitors a better view of all trains. \nWe even have model trains running outdoors\, a real caboose that you can walk through\, and a 7.5″ gauge ride-on train (which runs if the weather is ok.) \nHours\nWe are open every Sunday afternoon from 1:00 to 4:00 September through May. We will be closed on Easter Sunday\, (plus Christmas Eve\, Christmas Day\, and/or New Year’s Day if they fall on a Sunday) and throughout June\, July and August. \nAdmission is $5.00\, but as many as 6 of your crew can get in for a total of $10.00! \nInformation Line: 520-888-2222\nA living\, breathing (so far) person answers these calls most days during what other organizations call normal business hours.

SUMMARY:The Mighty Wurlitzer accompanies “Metropolis” featuring Cameron Carpenter
DESCRIPTION:Don’t miss this once-in-a-lifetime artistic experience!  Internationally renowned organist Cameron Carpenter creates a glorious sonic environment that follows every frame and every image of the 1927 science fiction\, silent-film masterpiece METROPOLIS on the Fox’s Mighty Wurlitzer organ. \nStep inside Tucson’s own art-deco picture palace\, where you’ll witness a breathtakingly realized vision of a dystopian art deco future as Carpenter’s stunning original music highlights the emotions\, heightens the drama\, and floods the iconic black-and-white images with the breath of the Mighty Wurlitzer organ. \nCameron Carpenter is the world’s most visible organist\, the first ever to be nominated for a GRAMMY Award for a solo album. He holds the 2012 Leonard Bernstein Award\, and in 2014\, launched his International Touring Organ (ITO)- a first-of-its kind digital organ built to his own design. He is a virtuoso composer/performer who is smashing the stereotypes of organ and classical music. Cameron’s latest album\, recorded at the Berlin Konzerthaus includes his own rendition of Bach’s Goldberg Variations as well as Hanson’s Symphony #2\, and was released by Universal / DECCA in the fall of 2021. One of his previous releases\, ‘All You Need is Bach’ debuted at #1 on the traditional classical charts. \nMore info \n
