SUMMARY:Common Sense Cactus Conservation in the 21st Century - Tucson Botanical Gardens
DESCRIPTION:Cacti are one of the most endangered groups of organisms on the planet\, besieged by poaching\, habitat destruction\, and climate change. Properly conserving our prickly friends in this changing world requires a paradigm shift in the way we view conservation\, as well as increased collaboration between stakeholders from all levels of society. \nHear from Michiel Pillet\, Program Officer of the IUCN Species Survival Commission Cactus and Succulent Plants Specialist Group. Dedicated to cactus conservation\, he studies the impact of climate change on cacti. In 2021\, he opened a conservation-focused cactus nursery\, Prickly Prospects (www.pricklyprospects.com)\, which focuses on ethical propagation of the most endangered species. He believes strongly in the importance of holistic conservation management including both research in the field\, as well as safeguarding the future of cacti by cultivating them. \n\n\nRegister Here\n\n\n\n\nThis event is free with admission. (Free for members. Admission is $8-15 for non-members.)

SUMMARY:A Swingin’ Little Christmas Starring Jane Lynch
DESCRIPTION:A Swingin’ Little Christmas Starring Jane Lynch\nFeaturing Kate Flannery\, Tim Davis & The Tony Guerrero Quintet\nEmmy Award and Golden Globe Award winning actress\, Jane Lynch\, is getting in the Christmas spirit with the release of a Christmas CD\, “A Swingin’ Little Christmas”! Following a path set by her role as Sylvester on the musical mega-hit TV show\, Glee\, a successful run as Miss Hannigan in the Broadway revival of Annie and a critically acclaimed national tour of her own cabaret show with Kate Flannery\, Two Lost Souls\, this album marks her first step as a international recording artist. \nJane didn’t come to the party alone\, inviting her friends Kate Flannery (best known for her portrayal of Meredith on NBC’s The Office) and Tim Davis (vocal producer for Glee and one of the industry’s leading vocal arrangers) to join in as both featured singers and as part of a classic-sounding vocal group (under Mr. Davis’ vocal direction). The trio is accompanied by The Tony Guerrero Quintet –– a nationally recognized jazz ensemble in its own right with multiple CD releases to its credit. \n“A Swingin’ Little Christmas” is unapologetically sentimental\, recalling the classic Christmas albums of the 1950s and 60s. The album features fifteen tracks\, including fresh takes on ten classic carols and five brand new nostalgia-inspired originals\, penned by bandleader\, Tony Guerrero. The disc is ripe with clever jazz arrangements\, tight vocal harmonies and features a variety of instrumentations including a five-piece jazz quintet\, a full big band and lush string orchestrations. Both Jane and Kate are well known for their comedic abilities\, and while the album has several fun\, lighthearted moments\, there are also plenty of deep\, rich and even serious musical moments to balance it out. \nJane Lynch’s “A Swingin’ Little Christmas” is sure to become a perennial holiday favorite! \nMore info

SUMMARY:Merry-Achi Christmas - Featuring Mariachi Sol De México® de José Hernández
DESCRIPTION:Mariachi Sol De Mexico with Jose Hernandez presents Merry-Achi Christmas: A beloved Tucson annual holiday tradition\, part of the romance of Mariachi songs is that all things are possible. The humor\, the spirit\, and even the bittersweet\, inspire us to a world where we live out our dreams. \nIn that same way\, much of the excitement of Jóse Hernàndez’ Mariachi Sol de Mexico® is that all things mariachi are possible. While his family tree is rooted in five generations of Mariachi musicians that hail from La Sierra del Tigre region of Jalisco\, Jose built on that foundation to grow mariachi music in new lands\, in new musical genres\, and in the hearts of new audiences. \nMore info

SUMMARY:Pink Martini featuring China Forbes
DESCRIPTION:In 1994 in his hometown of Portland\, Oregon\, Thomas Lauderdale was working in politics\, with the intention of eventually running for office. Like other eager politicians-in-training\, he went to every political fundraiser under the sun… but was dismayed to find the music at these events underwhelming\, lackluster\, loud and un-neighborly. Drawing inspiration from music from all over the world – crossing genres of classical\, jazz and old-fashioned pop – and hoping to appeal to conservatives and liberals alike\, he founded the “little orchestra” Pink Martini in 1994 provide more beautiful and inclusive musical soundtracks for political fundraisers for causes such as civil rights\, affordable housing\, cleaning up the Willamette River\, funding for libraries\, public broadcasting\, education and parks. \nOne year later\, Lauderdale called China Forbes\, a Harvard classmate who was living in New York City\, and asked her to join Pink Martini. They began to write songs together. Their first song – “Sympathique” (Je ne veus pas travailler)- became an overnight sensation in France\, was nominated for “Song of the Year” at France’s Victoires de la Musique Awards\, and to this day remains a mantra (“Je ne veux pas travailler” or “I don’t want to work”) for striking French workers.  Says Lauderdale\, “We’re very much an American band\, but we spend a lot of time abroad and therefore have the incredible diplomatic opportunity to represent a broader\, more inclusive America… the America which remains the most heterogeneously populated country in the world… composed of people of every country\, every language\, every religion. Except for Native Americans\, all of us are immigrants from every country\, of every language\, of every religion.”

SUMMARY:Mannheim Steamroller Christmas (Prescott)
DESCRIPTION:Mannheim Steamroller have been innovators of the neo-classical genre for over 40 years\, blending the finest orchestral sections with electronic elements and a hint of rock to arrive at their remarkably unique sound. Not only are their live performances sonically robust\, but they’re visually stimulating as well\, featuring an incredible light show and illustrations that dance across giant projection screens. Whether they’re playing originals like “Catching Snowflakes on Your Tongue” or classics like “Joy to the World\,” Mannheim Steamroller will have fans in the holiday spirit this season. \nMannheim Steamroller is the alias of composer Chip Davis\, who created the moniker from “Mannheim roller”\, a musical technique that was popular in Germany during the 1700s. Davis initially sought a record label to release his music\, but the lack of interest led to the creation of his own label American Gramophone for his 1975 debut album Fresh Aire. He went on to release seven more albums in the Fresh Aire series\, six of which were certified gold by the RIAA. His biggest success\, however\, came in 1984 with the release of Mannheim Steamroller Christmas\, a massive hit and enduring classic of contemporary holiday music. Since then\, his Christmas catalog has grown to include thirteen records\, containing some of Steamroller’s biggest hits and holding the distinction of being some of the most requested Christmas music of all time. \nImportant Event Info: Children 24 months and under do not require a ticket if seated on the lap of an adult. \n\nGet Tickets

SUMMARY:The World Famous Glenn Miller Orchestra
DESCRIPTION:With its unique jazz sound\, the legendary Glenn Miller Orchestra is considered to be one of the greatest and most popular big bands of all time. From “Moonlight Serenade” to “Chattanooga Choo Choo\,” relive some of the most popular music of the 1940s. With an 18-member ensemble that features two vocalists\, this is an afternoon of nostalgia and swing. \nThe legendary Glenn Miller was one of the most successful of all dance bandleaders back in the Swing Era of the 1930s and 40s. A matchless string of hit records\, the constant impact of radio broadcasts and the drawing power at theatres\, hotels\, and dance pavilions\, built and sustained the momentum of popularity. Glenn disbanded his musical organization in 1942 at the height of its popularity to volunteer for the Army. There\, he organized and led the famous Glenn Miller Army Air Force Band . It went to Europe to entertain servicemen performing numerous live and radio shows. On December 15\, 1944\, Major Miller took off in a single-engine plane from Europe to precede his band to France\, disappearing over the English Channel\, never to be seen again. The army declared him officially dead a year later. \nToday\, the 18-member ensemble continues to play many of the original Miller arrangements both from the civilian band and the AAFB libraries. Additionally\, it also plays some more modern selections arranged and performed in the Miller style and sound. Just as it was in Glenn’s day\, the Glenn Miller Orchestra today is still the most sought-after big band in the world. \n\nGet Tickets
